Metro Detroit Maids — legal
Accessibility Statement
What this site is built to, what we know is still short of it, when each gap gets closed, and how to book a cleaning without touching the booking widget.
The standard we build to
This site is built to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. That is the standard US courts and the Department of Justice look to under the Americans with Disabilities Act, and it is the one we hold pages to before they are published, not after.
Assessment so far is a self-evaluation by the team that built the site: automated checks on every template, plus a manual keyboard pass and a VoiceOver pass on macOS and iOS. It has not been audited by an independent third party. We review this statement at least every six months, and whenever a new page template or third-party embed is added.
What is built in
- Real HTML structure — headings in order, one per page at the top level, landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer, and a skip link as the first thing you reach with the keyboard.
- Everything works with a keyboard alone, with a visible gold focus ring on whatever is focused, and no keyboard traps.
- Body text is at least 4.5:1 against its background everywhere on the site. Colour is never the only thing carrying meaning.
- Pages reflow to a 320px-wide screen and survive 200% text zoom without losing content or function.
- Images that carry meaning have descriptive alternative text; decorative images are hidden from screen readers rather than announced as noise.
- Motion respects your system setting: turn on “reduce motion” and the animations on this site stop.
- No accessibility overlay. We do not install a toolbar or an auto-remediation widget. They do not fix the underlying markup, they frequently interfere with the screen reader you already use, and hiding problems is not the same as solving them.
Known limitations
Everything we currently know to be short of the standard:
- The online booking widget is a third-party embed. Booking, quoting, account login and payment run on BookingKoala. We do not control its markup, its focus order, its labels, its error messages or its colour contrast, and we cannot fix them ourselves. Its accessibility has not been verified by us, and it may not meet WCAG 2.1 AA. If it gives you trouble, book by phone or email instead — same price, same service, see below.
- Payment fields inside that flow come from Stripe and carry the same caveat, for the same reason.
- Screen reader coverage is incomplete. We have tested with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS. We have not yet completed a full pass with NVDA or JAWS on Windows.
- Before-and-after photographs are hard to describe. The alt text names the room and the change, but a short sentence cannot carry everything a photograph shows. If a specific image matters to you, ask and we will describe it properly.
- Third-party pages we link to — the booking platform, gift cards, social media — are outside our control and are not covered by this statement.
What we are doing about it, and by when
- By October 31, 2026 — a full NVDA and JAWS pass on Windows across the home page, the service pages and the booking route, with anything it turns up fixed or listed here.
- By December 31, 2026 — a documented accessibility review of the BookingKoala booking flow, raised with BookingKoala as a vendor request with the specific defects attached. Where they will not or cannot fix something, it gets listed above and the phone route stays permanently available.
- Ongoing — every new page and every new template is checked with an automated scan and a keyboard pass before it is published, and this statement is reviewed at least every six months.
- Individual reports — anything you report is triaged within two business days and fixed within thirty days where it is ours to fix. If a fix will take longer, we tell you why and give you a date.
Booking without the widget
You never have to use the online booking form to become a customer. All of these reach a person, and the price is the same whichever route you use — there is no surcharge for booking by phone.
- Call (313) 307-3327 — we will ask the same questions the form asks, read the price back to you before anything is confirmed, and take the booking.
- Email info@metrodetroitmaids.com — tell us the service, the address and roughly when, and we will reply with the price in plain text and a way to confirm.
- You can also ask us to make changes, pause or cancel a recurring plan by phone or email rather than through the account login. Cancelling by phone is exactly as easy as booking by phone.
Tell us about a problem
If any part of this site keeps you from doing what you came to do, we want the report — it is the fastest way anything gets fixed.
- Email info@metrodetroitmaids.com with Accessibility in the subject line. This inbox is monitored on business days.
- Or call (313) 307-3327 and say it is about website accessibility.
Helpful, if you have it: the page address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you were using. Not required — a sentence is enough.
We acknowledge within two business days and give you either a fix or a dated plan within ten business days.
If that does not resolve it
If you are not satisfied with the response, reply to the same thread with Escalation in the subject line, or ask on the phone for the business owner. It goes to the owner directly and you get an answer from them within ten business days.
You are also free to raise it externally at any point, including a complaint to the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division at ada.gov. Using the route above first does not take that right away.
